Example of Marriage Certificate (Danish)
You are entitled to a Marriage Certificate issued by the Danish National Church (Folkekirken) if you are married in the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark.
Please note: If you are married at the town hall (civil marriage), you must contact the Citizen Service Center (in Danish 'Borgerservice') in your municipality to get a Marriage Certificate.
The marriage certificate certifies your actual marriage. If you are a widow/widower, you can get a Marriage Certificate that certifies your marriage to your deceased spouse. If your present marital status is divorced, you cannot request a Marriage Certificate.
You can get the certificate in Danish or Danish/English. If you need the certificate in another EU country, you can ask for a language supplement (multilingual standard form) that includes a translation of your certificate.
Your Marriage Certificate is usually issued at the time of your wedding, but you can also order a Marriage Certificate after the wedding.
How to order the certificate after your wedding
If you have MitID
You must order your certificate with MitID on borger.dk unless you do not have MitID. You can order your certificate for:
- collection at your local church office. Remember to bring your photo ID.
- delivery by ordinary post. This certificate is issued on certificate paper and bears a stamp and a physical signature
- your Digital Post. This certificate is digitally signed and is for digital use only.
Please note: A digital certificate has no physical signature and stamp. You must check whether the public authority in Denmark or abroad accepts a digitally signed certificate.

If you do NOT have MitID
If you cannot order your certificate with MitID, you can attend a church office in person. Remember to bring your photo ID.
If you attend the church office in person, you will receive a certificate on paper with a stamp and a physical signature.
