If you have received a notification in Digital Post in relation to your request for burial or cremation to a deceased, - but also received a message that it is not possible to forward the request to the burial authority for processing?
Please read further and follow the guidance below.
Why is the request not sent for processing at the burial authority?
When you complete a request for burial or cremation by using the self-service on borger.dk, the request will automatically be sent to the burial authority who must process the request.
However, the address of the deceased must be registered in the Danish CPR-register. The request is not sent automatically if the deceased:
- did not live in Denmark or
- was registered in the Danish CPR-register as ‘Forsvundet’ (missing) or ‘Uden fast bopæl’ (without a permanent address in Denmark)
In these situations, the request is not forwarded automatically for processing.
What do you have to do instead?
You must complete a request on paper. You cannot complete the request online.

Deliver the request to the burial authority.
Who is the burial authority when the deceased did not have a Danish address?
The request must be delivered to:
- the parish where death took place in Denmark
- the parish of the burial/funeral in Denmark - if death took place in another country
Who is the burial authority when the deceased was registered as ‘Forsvundet’ (missing) or ‘Uden fast bopæl’ (Without a permanent address)
The address status “Missing” or “Without a Permanent Address” is registered in the CPR by a municipality. To determine which parish serves as the burial authority, the point of reference is the municipality’s Citizen Service Center (Borgerservice). The burial authority is the parish in which the municipality’s Citizen Service Center is physically located.
Submit the request to:
The parish where the Citizen Service Center has its physical address.
Example
If the Municipality of Copenhagen has registered the deceased as “Missing” or “Without a Permanent Address,” you must identify the parish to which the Citizen Service Center (for example, Nyropsgade 1) belongs and submit the request to that parish.
