If you have received a notification in Digital Post in relation to your application for naming, name change or for your declaration of Joint Care and Parental responsibility of your child, - but also received a message that it is not possible to forward it to the registrar for processing?
This is because your address (or the address of your child) is not registered in the Danish CPR-register.
Please read further and follow the guidance below.
Why is your application not sent for processing at the registrar?
When you apply by using the self-service on borger.dk, your application will automatically be sent to the registrar who will normally process your application. However, this requires that your address is registered in the Danish CPR-register. If you:
- live in another country
- are registered with an unknown address
- are registered without a permanent address
- or if you do not have a Danish address for other reasons
Your application/declaration cannot be forwarded for processing automatically.
What do you have to do instead?
Depending on your situation, there are different ways to act, please read the following.
If you do not have a permanent address or if you are registered with an unknown address
If you live in Denmark, however registered in the CPR-register by a municipality:
- without a permanent address
- or with an unknown address
- your application must be processed in Denmark by the parish in which the municipality is physically located. Make sure to contact this parish to inform them of your application/declaration.
If, in any doubt, you must contact Borgerservice (the Citizen Service Centre).
If it concerns your child and your child is born in the Southern part of Jutland the municipality of the birthplace is the registrar.
If you have a permanent address in another country
If you live in another country you cannot always apply in Denmark.
Application for name change
Generally, a name change must be processed in the country where you live, even as a Danish citizen.
If, however, the other country you live in, refuses to process your application because of your Danish citizenship, your application can be processed in Denmark. Your registrar will be your recent parish in Denmark before leaving for another country. The application must be delivered on paper and the written refusion from the country you live in must be attached.

Application for Naming and Declaration of Joint Care and Responsibility or Co-motherhood
If your child is born in Denmark, you can apply for naming in Denmark even if you do not live in Denmark.
You must deliver an Application for Naming to the parish also registering the birth, located at the birthplace (the hospital). You must apply by completing an application on paper.
If you are not married and wish to have joint parental responsibility you must deliver a Declaration of Joint Care and Responsibility or Co-motherhood (in Danish: Omsorgs- og ansvarserklæring) to the same parish. You must apply by completing a declaration on paper.
