If your child is born in Denmark and the mother does not have a Danish address, there are different scenarios effecting the process of how your child is birth registered in the CPR, e.g., whether you are married or have a Danish CPR-number at the birth. Please find your appropriate scenario in the following and read further.
When the birth is registered you can ask for a Certificate of Personal Data (documentation for the birth) that is issued by the registrar (the parish where your child is birth registered).
Please note: If the child is born by parents of the same gender, you must contact the Agency of Family Law after your child is born to get your parental custody registered.

If the mother has a Danish CPR-number
If the mother has a Danish CPR-number, the birth is registered by the parish close to the hospital where the birth took place.
Your child will be given a Danish CPR-number at the hospital and the mother will receive a letter of information in her Digital Post that informs her of registration of paternity and naming. Find the letter at the following link.
> Find the Letter of information (pdf.) (in Danish only)
If the mother is married
If the mother is married and the marriage is registered in the CPR, the father is automatically registered as father with shared custody of the child.
If your marriage is not registered in the CPR in Denmark, you must contact Folkeregistret at the municipality (Citizens Service Center). Remember to bring your Marriage Certificate.
If the mother is unmarried/divorced
If the mother is unmarried and the father has a Danish CPR-number, you can complete the Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration if you wish to have joint parental custody. You can do this online with MitID on lifeindenmark.dk or on paper. Please contact the parish where the birth is registered after you have completed the declaration.
> Fill out the Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration online on lifeindenmark.dk
> Download the Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration on paper (pdf.) (in Danish only)
If the mother is unmarried and the father does not have a Danish CPR-number – and you wish to have joint parental custody, you can complete a Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration on paper by attending the parish where your child was birth registered. Please bring Photo ID e.g., Passport.
If the parish does not receive the declaration within 28 days after your child is born the processing of paternity will take place by the Agency of Family Law.

If the mother does not have a Danish CPR-number
If the mother does not have a Danish CPR-number, the birth is registered by the parish where the child is born. The mother will not receive the letter of information that normally will inform you of the further process of paternity and naming, however you can find the letter by clicking on the link below.
> Download the Letter of information (pdf.) (in Danish only)
To register the birth the mother will be given a CPR-number (without an attached address). In order to make this happen the mother must deliver a Photo ID (certificate) together with other documentation e.g., Passport, documentation of asylum etc.
The CPR-number will be made by specialists within given time.
If the mother is married
If the mother is married the husband will automatically be registered as father with joint custody at the time of birth. It is however required to bring documentation on your marriage.
If your marriage is not registered in the CPR, you must contact Folkeregistret (Citizens Service Center).
Please note: If the father does not have a CPR-number at the time of birth but gets the number later, you must contact the parish where the birth is registered to correct the paternity in the CPR.
> Find your parish of birth registration (search on the address of the hospital)
If the mother is unmarried/divorced etc.
If the mother is unmarried and the father has a Danish CPR-number, you can complete a Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration to get joint parental custody. You can complete the declaration on paper. Please contact the parish where your child was birth registered when it is completed.
If the mother is unmarried and the father does NOT have a CPR-number, he will be given a Danish CPR-number (however without attached address). The CPR-number will be given by specialists within given time. If you need joint parental custody, you can complete a Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration on paper.
> Download the Care and Responsibility for Paternity Declaration on paper (pdf.) (in Danish only)
> Find your parish of birth registration (search on the address of the hospital)
Naming
After birth registration the next step will be to apply for a name for your child. Since your child does not have an address in Denmark, you can apply in the same parish where your child was registered at birth.
