Marriage can take place within other religious communities if just one of you belongs to the religious community, and this community has the authority to perform marriages. You should contact the specific religious community and set a date for the wedding.
Marriage license – “Certificate of marital status” (in Danish “Prøvelsesattest”)
You must obtain a certificate of marital status to get married and fill out a marriage declaration on lifeindenmark.dk with MitID (choose English after logon). When the declaration is approved you will automatically receive a certificate of marital status from your municipality of residence.
> Find the digital marriage declaration on lifeindenmark.dk
> Find the marriage declaration on paper if you do not have MitID
You must bring the certificate of marital status to the community where you are getting married at least 14 days before your wedding.
Please note: The Certificate of marital status is only valid for 4 months, and therefore cannot be issued earlier than 4 months before the date of your wedding.
After the wedding
If you have applied for a change of name at your wedding, and it is approved, your new name will be registered by your local registrar when Borgerservice (Citizen Service Centre) has registered your marriage in the CPR. You will be notified in your Digital Post when your name has changed.
