Civil marriage
When you are getting married at the town hall (civil marriage), you must contact the town hall in the municipality and make an appointment for the ceremony.
Marriage license – “Certificate of marital status”
You must obtain a certificate of marital status to get married and fill out a marriage declaration on lifeindenmark.dk with MitID (choose English after logon). When the declaration is approved you will automatically receive a certificate of marital status from your municipality of residence.
> Find the online marriage declaration on lifeindenmark.dk
> Find the marriage declaration on paper if you do not have MitID
Please note: The Certificate of marital status is only valid for 4 months, and therefore cannot be issued earlier than 4 months before the date of your wedding.
After your wedding
You will receive a marriage certificate from the municipality at your wedding.
If you have applied for a change of name at your wedding, and it is approved by your local registrar, your new name will appear on your marriage certificate, and you will be notified in your Digital Post when it is registered in the CPR.
