When you are getting married in the Danish National Church (Folkekirken), you must contact the vicar in the church where you want to get married.
You must be affiliated to the church - for example if you live/have lived in the parish, or one of you is baptized or confirmed in the church.
If you do not have an affiliation with the church, the priest will decide if the wedding can take place there.
Marriage license – “Certificate of marital status”
You must obtain a certificate of marital status to get married and fill out a marriage declaration on lifeindenmark.dk with MitID (choose English after logon). When the declaration is approved you will automatically receive a certificate of marital status from your municipality of residence.
You must bring the certificate of marital status to the priest or church office where you are getting married at least 14 days before your wedding.
Please note: The Certificate of marital status is only valid for 4 months, and therefore cannot be issued earlier than 4 months before the date of your wedding.
After the wedding, you will receive a marriage certificate from the church.
If you have applied for a change of name at your wedding, and it is approved by your local registrar, your new name will appear on the certificate, and you will be notified in your Digital Post.
