Apply by using the self-service with MitID
You must complete an application for a name for your child. If you have joint custody, one of the parents must initiate the application and sign it followed by the other parent’s co-signature. The application is then automatically sent for processing at the local registrar.
> Apply online for a name with MitID (in Danish only)
Please note: the self-service is only available in Danish. If you need further help, please contact your local registrar.

Co-sign the application online
If your child's name requires approval from another parent, a message will be sent to his/her Digital Post. He/she can also sign directly in the self-service on borger.dk.
Please note: The application will be accessible for co-signing for 14 days after initiation. Hereafter you must initiate a new application.

Apply on paper
If you or the other parent do not have MitID, or are exempt from mandatory self-service or Digital Post, you must print and complete an application for name on paper, which must be handed in or sent by post to your local registrar.
Do not send the application by mail.

If your child was born abroad
If your child was born abroad, you must attend your local Borgerservice (Citizen Service Centre) in your municipality to have your child registered in the CPR. Remember to bring the documents (Certificate of Birth, etc.) that you received from the country where your child was born.
If your child is not named, you can apply on paper and bring the application to your local registrar.
