As a main rule, the funeral wishes of the deceased must be respected.
Please note: The notifier or an undertaker must always complete a request for burial/cremation, regardless of whether there is a ceremony or not.
Please note: If the deceased was a member of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark (Folkekirken) or another community, membership will be considered to be an expression of a wish for a funeral within the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark (Folkekirken) or another ecclesiastical community, unless the deceased had expressed otherwise.

Church funeral within the Evangelical-Lutheran Church and subsequent burial/cremation
If the deceased was a member of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark (Folkekirken), this is considered to be an expression of a wish for an ecclesiastical funeral with subsequent burial. As a relative, you should contact the priest in the parish where the deceased used to live to arrange the funeral.

Funeral in another ecclesiastical community
If the deceased was a member of another ecclesiastical community other than the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark (Folkekirken), you should contact that community to arrange the funeral.
Civil funeral service
If the deceased was not a member of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Denmark (Folkekirken) or another ecclesiastical community, you may have a non-ecclesiastical funeral with subsequent burial or cremation. There are no special requirements as to the conduct of a non-ecclesiastical ceremonial funeral. You may arrange for it to take place at a chapel at the cemetery and you have to contact that specific place.
Some associations as well as undertakers conduct non-ecclesiastical funerals for a fee.
No ceremony
If the deceased did not want a ceremony, you will need to arrange with a crematorium if the coffin is to be cremated and with a cemetery if the coffin/urn is to be buried.
